David Begay Mays, Din'eh
|
David is a wonderful artist, working in many medias: drawings and paintings, sandpainting, sculpture, carvings, beadwork, fan making, and leatherwork, just to name a few. David divides his time between the reservation in Utah, and excursions to Florida to visit with relatives.
David was born on the Reservation near Farmington, New Mexico. At the age of 16 years, after losing his mother and brother, he became an adoptee of a Florida couple who learned of his plight from the Boarding School he had to attend. David attended high school in Florida, and later decided to enter the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1980's.
It was after his stint in the Marines that he returned to the Reservation. There, a disabled Navajo Marine taught him the ancient art of Sand Painting. David has since perfected the art, with his own special visions, as well as becoming quite proficient in Bead work and Fan Art.
