Andrew Dewa, Zuni

It is with deepest regret that we must tell you that Andrew Dewa left this life on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001.  Andrew Dewa created one of the most widely recognized styles of mosaic inlay sunface jewelry.  His fabulous pieces werer meticulously handmade of Sterling Silver, Turquoise, Coral, Mother of Pearl, Gold-lipped Mother of Pearl and Jet.  Andrew made jewelry since the 1960's, and said  that the sunface "does honor to the Sun Father." His work is published in Zuni Jewelry, the Art and the People, Vol 2, by Barbara and Ed Bell, Zuni Jewelry, by Theda and Michael Bassman, Schiffer Publishing, Treasures of the Zuni, by Theda Bassman, and Zuni: A Village of Silversmiths, University of New Mexico Press, and others.  Andrew, we love you and miss you, and will look for you in the next camp.  Ah ho.

Please note all the items on this page are only available when I find someone willing to sell. There are very few of Andrew's pieces in existence today. His widow, Barbara, has his patterns and helped him make his wonderful jewelry, but she still misses him so much that she cannot bring herself to make them. The very rare time that she has, her pieces are stamped  "BD."
